Smith buoyed by Rovers draw

Manager Gary Smith believes Stevenage are heading in the right direction, despite having not won in four matches.

Boro needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Greg Tansey to salvage a 1-1 draw against League One leaders Tranmere. "It was disappointing of course not to get three points because we want it, but I felt it was a much better performance from us," said Smith. "It wasn't until the final stages, when both sides tired a little, that the game really opened up. And with their first goal, of course we're disappointed with it. It can be defended better. "But the equaliser was an absolute stunner again from Greg, and of course Robin hit the post - and there were one or two phantom penalty shouts. "We've gone behind here on a number of occasions and we're not very pleased about that, but against good sides you know they've got a goal threat and Jake Cassidy has been prolific for them. And if there was one guy who was going to get it for them, it was going to be him. "I thought it was a really competitive game. I thought as a spectacle, it must have been quite exciting."
