Cumbrians cruise in FA Cup

Carlisle United destroyed Alfreton's dreams of FA Cup glory with a devastating 20-minute spell to secure a 4-0 away win.

The Blue Square Bet Premier side caused the Cumbrians problems early on, but the League One outfit soaked up the pressure and broke away to take the lead after 24 minutes when Alfreton failed to deal with a corner and striker Lee Miller fired home from close range. Carlisle went further ahead nine minutes later when debutant Christian Ribeiro crossed for Rory Loy to score with a neat overhead-kick. The one-way traffic continued as James Berrett netted an easy third. It got even worse for the home team in first-half stoppage time when Berrett sent over a corner and Liam Noble was allowed time and space to score a simple header. Carlisle eased off in the second half and almost paid the penalty, with Alfreton earning a spot-kick only for Chris Senior to smash his effort against the crossbar. The visitors almost grabbed a fifth goal with the final kick of the game but sub Craig Curran's shot came back off the inside of a post.
