Cambridge 0-2 Exeter: Grecians remain top of League Two

Cambridge Utd 0-2 Exeter

Table-topping Exeter won 2-0 at Cambridge to continue their strong start to the Sky Bet League Two season.

The Grecians were set on their way to victory with two goals inside the opening quarter of an hour, aided by some poor defending from the home side.

Jonathan Forte opened the scoring with eight minutes gone, stealing in to beat goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov after George Taft could only guide Pierce Sweeney's long ball towards his own goal.

The lead was doubled six minutes later through Jayden Stockley, whose header from Craig Woodman's cross went straight to Mitov but then through the goalkeeper's hands before rolling over the line.

The U's saw Ade Azeez fire just wide on the turn and George Maris was unable to hit the target with a couple of efforts from outside the box.

Cambridge's best chance of getting back into the game after half-time came when Harrison Dunk could only fire at Christy Pym at the end of a quick break, either side of Stockley twice hitting the woodwork from close range.
