Paynter at the double as Robins ease past Stockport
Swindon maintained their play-off challenge with a comfortable 4-1 win over relegation candidates Stockport.
The Robins made the perfect start with a fourth-minute strike from Danny Ward who collected a clearance on the 18-yard line to place the ball past County goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams.
Danny Wilson's side had to wait until the 45th minute to extend their lead.
Billy Paynter took advantage of a slip by Williams when he spilled the ball from Alan Sheehan's strike following a strong left-wing run.
However, moments later Swindon conceded a free-kick just outside the penalty area and Greg Tansey fired past David Lucas to give Stockport renewed hope going into the break.
But Simon Ferry headed in an exquisite chip from Jon-Paul McGovern as Swindon began to dominate the game once more.
Paynter completed the scoring with a 20-yard effort before Ferry cleared off the line late on.
