Joey Barton and Rangers will meet on Thursday to discuss the player's future at Ibrox, according to Sky sources.
Barton has not played for Rangers since they were beaten 5-1 by Glasgow neighbours Celtic in the Scottish Premiership in September.
In the week following that match, the former QPR and Burnley player was involved an altercation with fellow midfielder Andy Halliday and manager Mark Warburton.
The 34-year-old has been suspended by the club since then, although Halliday has played in all six games, scoring three goals.
Barton has only played eight times since his arrival at Ibrox during the summer.
He has recently been linked with a return to Turf Moor, but Sky sources insist no discussions have taken place between Barton and Burnley.
Barton signed a two-year deal with Rangers in May, and compensation is likely to be a point of discussion when he meets club representatives.
