Italy's World Cup-winning defender Marco Materazzi is about to start a new chapter in his life by working in the inaugural Indian Super League.
The former Inter Milan star joined Indian club Chennaiyin FC earlier this month as a player-manager but his primary aim is to coach.
"If necessary, I'm ready to play but I would like to concentrate on my role as coach," Materazzi told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "We have many good players and I'm not the best.
"We have to do our best and try to win."
Former Manchester City midfielder Elano is among the players in the Chennaiyin side.
The 41-year-old Materazzi will make his coaching debut in the eight-team competition on October 16 at FC Goa before taking on former Italy team-mate Alessandro Del Piero nine days later.
Ex-Juventus forward Del Piero, who was also a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, is on the books of Delhi Dynamos FC.
Materazzi retired from football in 2011 after winning five Serie A titles, one Champions League trophy, one Club World Cup, four Coppa Italia trophies and four Italian Supercups with Inter.
