Kingsley Coman scored an extra-time winner as Bayern Munich reached the German Cup quarter-finals with a nervy 3-2 victory away to Hertha Berlin on Wednesday night.

The French winger headed in from close range in the 98th minute, handing victory to a Bayern side who had dominated the encounter but failed to win in normal time at the Olympiastadion.

Hertha took a third-minute lead with their first effort on goal through Maximilian Mittelstadt but it was all Bayern thereafter as the visitors bossed the ball with 75 per cent possession.

Serge Gnabry fired in the equaliser four minutes later and then scored again four minutes after the break to put Bayern ahead.

A blunder by defender Mats Hummels, who headed the ball into the path of substitute Davie Selke, allowed Hertha to equalise with only their second shot on goal.
