Dutch side PSV Eindhoven have appointed Mark van Bommel as their new head coach on a three-year deal, replacing new Fenerbahce boss Phillip Cocu.
Cocu, who spent five seasons at the Dutch club, was announced as the new manager of the Turkish side on Friday morning, shortly after PSV announced he would be leaving the club.
Van Bommel is currently in Russia at the World Cup with the Australian national team as part of Bert van Marwijk's coaching staff. He will start in his new role once he returns from the tournament.
Australia need to win their final Group C game against Peru to give themselves a chance of progressing to the knockout phases, but still rely on leaders France beating Denmark.
Van Bommel spent six years playing for PSV as a player before going abroad to have spells with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and AC Milan. He returned to the Dutch side for the final season of his career.
Cocu won three league titles during his five-year reign as PSV boss, having had two stints with the club during his playing days.
