Wycombe 0-1 Bristol City: Narrow victory for Robins

Highlights of the EFL Cup match between Wycombe and Bristol City.

Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth and his assistant Barry Richardson decided against bringing themselves off the bench despite seeing their side exit the EFL Cup 1-0 at the hands of Bristol City.

Ainsworth, 43, and first-team coach Richardson, 47, were included in the Chairboys' squad at Adams Park due to injuries.

But they watched on from the sidelines as Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham made it two goals in as many games since joining Bristol City with the solitary goal midway through the first half.

Wanderers had signed goalkeeper Cameron Dawson on loan from Sheffield Wednesday just a couple of hours before the match and he was forced to deny Bobby Reid from 25 yards as early as the third minute.

But he was beaten after 27 minutes as 18-year-old Abraham turned well following Luke Freeman's cross and found the bottom corner.

Wycombe grew in stature after the break with Matt Bloomfield, Joe Jacobson and Dayle Southwell forcing a string of reaction saves from Robins goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell.

The Chairboys did eventually find their way past O'Donnell with nine minutes remaining but Adebayo Akinfenwa's effort was ruled out for offside.
