AFC Wimbledon 1-3 Brentford AET: Bees strike in extra-time

Highlights of the Carabao Cup match between AFC Wimbledon and Brentford

Ollie Watkins and Justin Shaibu struck in extra-time as Brentford claimed a 3-1 win at AFC Wimbledon to reach the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Championship side Brentford dominated early on but Neal Ardley's home team got their noses in front when Paul Robinson's shot somehow crept in off a post.

The visitors threatened an equaliser and got their wish when new signing Romaine Sawyers dazzled the crowd with a screaming shot from outside the box.

Extra-time followed and new signing Watkins put the Bees ahead before Shaibu got Brentford's third to condemn Wimbledon to a seventh straight first-round exit.

Brentford were on top early and the first real chance of the game fell to the lively Watkins but he blazed over amidst a bright start for the visitors.

The Dons found the opener against the run of play in the 25th minute when a corner eventually found its way to Robinson and his looping shot dropped in via the woodwork.

Former Arsenal youngster Nico Yennaris almost equalised with a 20-yard drive before Dons goalkeeper George Long palmed away a rasping Sawyers effort at the end of the first half.
