FIFA arrests: Who are the seven officials arrested?

We take a look at the FIFA members who were arrested in Zurich on Wednesday following allegations of corruption.

Jeffrey Webb

Executive Committee member Webb is president of CONCACAF (the football federation for the Carribbean and North and Central America). This role automatically qualified him as a FIFA vice-president.

The 50-year-old has led FIFA’s anti-racism taskforce and was one of the organisation’s officials who called for the Garcia Report into allegations of corruption surrounding the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to be published.

Eugenio Figueredo

Another senior figure in FIFA, Figueredo is also a FIFA vice-president and Executive Committee member. The 83-year-old is a former CONMEBOL (South American football association) president and was Uruguayan football federation president from 1997 until 2006.

Costas Takkas

Takkas is a former general secretary of the Cayman Islands football association and has worked as an advisor to CONCACAF president Webb. According to the US Department of Justice, the 58-year-old is a British citizen.

Jose Maria Marin

Marin served as Brazilian FA president from 2012 to 2015 and is a current member FIFA’s organising committee for Olympic football tournaments.

The 83-year-old has been involved in politics and sports administration for a number of years and played as a striker for Sao Paulo in the 1950s.

Marin was at the centre of a  controversy in 2012 when he was caught on camera pocketing a medal during a youth football tournament.

Rafael Esquivel

Esquivel has been president of the Venezuela Soccer Federation since 1988 and is a current CONMEBOL executive committee member. The 68-year-old also sits on FIFA's disciplinary committee.

Eduardo Li

Li is of Chinese heritage and is president of the Costa Rican Soccer Federation. The 56-year-old is a CONCACAF executive committee member.

Julio Rocha 

Rocha is former president of the Nicaraguan Soccer Federation and the Central American Football Union. The 64-year-old currently serves as a FIFA development officer.
