Arjen Robben admits Netherlands' upcoming friendlies against Wales and Germany are 'bizarre' following their failure to qualify for Euro 2016.

The Netherlands failed to secure passage through to the tournament after a 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic ensured their qualifying campaign ended in failure after finishing fourth in Group A.

The Dutch play in Cardiff on Friday and Hannover next Tuesday, and will take on England at Wembley in March, but their next competitive game at the start of the World Cup qualifiers is in Sweden next year on September 6.

Speaking to reporters after joining up with the Dutch team, the 31-year-old admits he is struggling to understand why Netherlands are playing their next two fixtures, but insists he wishes to continue playing for his country despite his injury problems.

"I really want to keep playing even if the two games we are playing now make little sense," he said.

"They are bizarre matches. Are we preparing for the Euros or the World Cup or even for play-offs? No, we are preparing now for matches only in September next year."

Failure in the Euro 2016 qualifiers signified a huge dip in form for the Dutch, who had finished third less than 18 months ago at the World Cup in Brazil, but Robben says the whole dutch squad will assess how to move forward.

"Around these two matches we will do a lot of talking about how we can improve," Robben added.

"We got ourselves into a difficult situation. After a successful World Cup it was simply not good enough in the Euro qualifiers."
