Argentina ace retires after suffering kidney problems

Argentinean striker Luciano Galletti has formally announced his retirement from football for health reasons. The Olympiakos hot-shot has not featured since being diagnosed with severe kidney failure earlier this year. The 30-year-old, who also played for Napoli, Real Zaragoza and Atletico Madrid and was capped 13 times in his career, hopes to continue in the game in some capacity. He said in a statement published by Heraldo.es: "I would have loved to continue playing, but I have a family and there are things in life that are more important than football. "The kidney problem surfaced in January. Luckily I have managed to beat it, but the idea of returning to football would have been far too great a risk. "I want to take some time to rest in Argentina and enjoy time with my family. I still have to think about my future, but I would like to remain involved in football."
