Manager thrilled with play-off success
Oxford manager Chris Wilder lavished praise on his players following the 3-1 victory over York in the Blue Square Premier play-off final.
Oxford made a bright start and went 2-0 ahead inside 21 minutes courtesy of goals from Matt Green and James Constable at Wembley.
Goalkeeper Ryan Clarke's blunder gifted York a lifeline and the Minstermen pushed hard for an equaliser before Alfie Porter clinched the win for Oxford late on.
They can now look forward to a return to the Football League next season and Wilder hopes the future is bright for the club.
"To everyone involved with the football club this is reward for a lot of hard work that has gone in," he told Sky Sports.
"Yet again we didn't make it easy for ourselves. I thought we were great in the first 20 to 25 minutes.
"Credit to York. They had a right go at it and we weren't great in the second half, but I think we did enough to claim what I think is our rightful position back in the Football League.
"We wanted to be positive and we wanted to be brave, and I think we did that in difficult conditions."
Looking ahead to life in League Two, Wilder added: "It is a competitive league and that is where we want to be.
"We have got to make sure we use this is a springboard for the football club."
Foyle
York counterpart Martin Foyle was proud of his players despite defeat but bemoaned their slow start to the game.
"It was a tough opening 25 minutes for us. We knew they were going to stick the ball long and we probably didn't cope with that well," said Foyle.
"After that we worked hard, got ourselves back in the game and had chances at good times.
"I am disappointed for the lads. They have given me everything and I won't hear a bad word sad about them.
"But unfortunately for us Oxford are celebrating and good luck to them."
