Zlatan Ibrahimovic was sent off via VAR during LA Galaxy's match against Montreal on Monday after striking an opponent's head.

The former Manchester United striker was shown red for violent conduct in the 41st minute because he hit out at Montreal's Michael Petrasso, who appeared to stand on Ibrahimovic's foot.

Both players went down after a short delay, which led to a video referral, and subsequently, the referee giving the 36-year-old his marching orders, while Petrasso received a yellow card.

LA Galaxy won the match 1-0 with a goal from Ola Kamara in the 75th minute at Saputo Stadium.

The Galaxy are second in the Western Conference of the MLS behind leaders Sporting Kansas City.

Ibrahimovic has scored three goals in seven games since making the switch in March.
