How they qualified: Group E winners in European qualifying, winning eight games (D1 L1) to finish five points clear of Denmark.

History: Seven appearances at the World Cup, securing third-place finishes in 1974 and 1982. Last qualified in 2006.

Fun fact: Poland have only scored in two of their last eight World Cup games.

Best World Cup moment: A first World Cup win in 1974, which came at the expense of Argentina. The 3-2 group-stage victory was their first of five consecutive wins, though a 1-0 defeat to eventual winners West Germany saw them ultimately playing for third - which they achieved when beating Brazil 1-0.
