Switzerland have been dealt an untimely blow by the news that Philippe Senderos is to miss their next two games.
The commanding centre-half sprained his right ankle in Wednesday's shock 1-0 win over Spain and will now sit out the remainder of the group stage.
Medical tests have shown that Senderos has suffered no fracture, but he is still set for a spell on the sidelines.
He lasted just 36 minutes against the Spaniards before being forced off, with team doctor Cuno Wetzel describing the problem as a 'painful distortion of the ankle'.
Wetzel has also confirmed that the Swiss will be without the Fulham new-boy for their Group H fixtures against Chile and Honduras.
"He will be out for the next two games," he added.
Objective
While disappointed to see a key player ruled out, Switzerland are understandably upbeat following their surprise victory over the reigning European champions.
They are well aware that there is still work to be done before they can celebrate securing a safe passage into the knockout stages, but commanding goalkeeper Diego Benaglio is confident they can book a place in the last 16.
He said: "For us our objective has not changed. The win yesterday was very nice, very good for us, but our objective is to get through the first round.
"The next game is against Chile. We have to do our best in that game and do not think of other things."
Benaglio's team-mate, strike ace Blaise Nkufo, is also adamant that no-one in the Swiss camp is getting carried away after the Spain success.
The FC Twente frontman said: "We beat Spain but we did not change the world, it does not qualify us for the second round, so we have to stay humble."
