Goalless stalemate at Stade Josy Barthel

Luxembourg remain rooted to the bottom of Group F after a goalless draw with fellow World Cup qualifying minnows Azerbaijan at the Stade Josy Barthel. Visiting goalkeeper Kamran Agayev was forced to make several fine saves although it was Azerbaijan who came closest to scoring when Pardis Fardjad-Azad saw his header come back off a post. The game came to life midway through the first half when Agayev magnificently turned away Aurelien Joachim's strike from Daniel Da Mota Alves' cross and then followed that up with another fine save from Vagif Javadov. Fardjad-Azad saw his header come back off the woodwork just before half-time to give Luxembourg a let-off. Rauf Aliyev spurned another chance for Azerbaijan when his effort from close range was parried by Luxembourg goalkeeper Jonathan Joubert. At the other end, Joachim saw his strike from point-bank range superbly pushed away by Agayev, who also denied Tom Laterza's header in injury-time as Azerbaijan moved level on points with fourth-placed Northern Ireland in the group.
