Dagenham 0-0 Newport: Daggers lack cutting edge

Highlights of Dagenham & Redbridge’s 0-0 draw with Newport in Sky Bet League Two.

There was an early contender for worst game of the season as Dagenham & Redbridge and Newport County played out a dull goalless draw.

Zavon Hines had a great chance to mark his first start since February 2014 with a goal inside the first minute but poked wide under pressure just inside the box.

That was about as good as it got in a dreadful first half, with both keepers rarely tested.

But in the 47th minute half-time replacement Zak Ansah forced Daggers stopper Liam O'Brien into action, tipping over the striker's effort from 20 yards.

Dagenham, too, had a good early chance when Ashley Hemmings crossed in the 56th minute but substitute Jamie Cureton could only put his volley over the bar.

Cureton had a hatful of chances to find the game's opener but had clearly left his shooting boots at home, with all efforts off target.

The only positive for the hosts would be picking up their first league clean sheet of the season, while Newport's search for a win goes on.
