Steven Gerrard's eight red cards for Liverpool and England

September 1999 v Everton (Premier League)

Gerrard's first sending off came as a 19-year-old against Everton. The teenager was introduced from the bench midway through the second half but was sent back to the dressing room for a 90th minute challenge on Kevin Campbell in a 1-0 defeat at Anfield.

April 2001 v Leeds (Premier League)

Gerrard halved Liverpool's deficit against Leeds United at Anfield but then left them a man short for the final 20 minutes after bringing down David Batty. Liverpool went on to lose 2-1.

September 2001 v Aston Villa (Premier League)

Gerrard found the net moments after half-time against Aston Villa in 2001 - but was sent off for a studs-up tackle on George Boateng with just under 20 minutes to play, as Liverpool fell to a 3-1 defeat.

May 2003 v Chelsea (Premier League)

Gerrard picked up a second yellow card for a late foul on Graeme Le Saux in this 2-1 defeat at Chelsea which saw the Blues qualify for the Champions League at the expense of Liverpool.

March 2006 v Everton (Premier League)

Gerrard picked up two yellow cards in just 18 minutes in this fiesty encounter. Liverpool still went on to win the Anfield clash 3-1 but their captain had once again seen red in the Merseyside derby. 

January 2011 v Manchester United (FA Cup)

Gerrard was dismissed for a reckless challenge on Michael Carrick after just 32 minutes, as Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup 1-0 at Old Trafford. 

September 2012 v Ukraine (World Cup qualifying)

Gerrard's only red card while on international duty came in England's 1-1 draw with Ukraine at Wembley in 2012, receiving a second booking in the 88th minute for a mis-timed tackle on Denys Garmash.

March 2015 v Manchester United (Premier League)

Gerrard was a half-time substitute on Sunday but just 38 seconds into the second period he was shown a straight red card for stamping on Ander Herrera. Liverpool were already trailing 1-0 and went on to lose the match 2-1 and slip five points behind top-four rivals United.
