Tony Lochhead

The reliable Lochhead is one of the first names on the All Whites team-sheet. A robust and quick defender, he normally takes up the left-sided slot at the back for his country, although he played in a more advanced wing-back role against Bahrain in the World Cup play-off. He made his full international debut in 2003 and has since gone on to become a fixture in the New Zealand line-up. Lochhead started every game of the 2006 World Cup qualifying and 2009 Confederations Cup campaigns, missing only one 2010 qualifying match. The 28-year-old started his career in the US, playing college soccer and spending two seasons in the MLS with New England Revolution. He now plays his club football in New Zealand with Wellington Phoenix having had an unsuccessful trial with Middlesbrough in 2008.
