Women's football: England to play USA and France ahead of Women's World Cup

England women will play USA and France at home next year in key games ahead of next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.

England will take on FIFA World Ranked No.1 team USA on February 13 and France, ranked fourth in the world, on April 9.

The matches will continue England’s run of clashes with top teams, after last month’s historic game against Germany at Wembley, which took place in front of a record 45,000 crowd.

England coach Mark Sampson said the two latest “top tier” matches scheduled for 2015 were key to his side’s World Cup preparation.

England and Arsenal women's footballer Jordan Nobbs answers some questions from the Game Changers audience.

“In USA and France we are without doubt facing some of the best teams in the world, and teams who will have genuine ambitions of winning the World Cup,” Sampson said.

“The Germany match gave us a real marker in terms of where we need to strive to be in the long term,” he said of the 0-3 loss in November.

“We have a long way to go to reach those levels but the experience of matches against the top players and top teams will allow us to develop the qualities we need to be competitive as we can be in the summer.

“The team will mature a lot off the back of the Germany experience and now with more opportunities to test ourselves against top tier nations we have the opportunity to continue to grow."

Venues and kick-off times will be announced in the coming weeks. The draw for the Women’s World Cup takes place on December 6 in Ottawa.

England will also take part in next year’s Cyprus Cup, an annual tournament which runs from 2 –1 2 March 2015.
