City confirm an agreement has been reached with Cardiff Blues
Cardiff City have confirmed that they have signed a 'detailed agreement' with rugby union side Cardiff Blues over the sharing of their new ground.
The stadium at Leckwith, which will initially seat 25,000 but can be increased to 30,000, is due for completion in 2009.
Upon completion City will part ways with their home at Ninian Park, while The Blues will leave Arms Park.
The move to the site of Leckwith Athletics Stadium had previously been initiated by Sam Hammam in 2002, but the former Cardiff chairman later revealed that the club were struggling with debts of almost £30million.
But the arrival of Peter Ridsdale as chairman has proved the catalyst, and he assisted in getting the project back on track.
Pride
Ridsdale confirmed that an agreement has been struck, and he spoke of his delight at the arrangement.
"On behalf of Cardiff City Football Club I am delighted that an agreement has been reached whereby Cardiff Blues will use the new stadium at Leckwith as their home ground," he told the club's official website.
"The arrangement makes total sense to everyone in professional sport both in and outside the city of Cardiff.
"Our new stadium will be something that everyone in the city of Cardiff will be proud of, and this agreement ensures that professional sport within the city and indeed far beyond can be seen to be prospering side by side.
"Supporters of both teams will enjoy facilities that in the past could only have been dreamt of."
