Wise takes drastic action, Aragones thinks he's going off, Wallace says caravans are too cheap while Keane gives a frank assessment of England's ability. Dennis Wise has taken drastic measures at Leeds United to ensure assistant manager Dave Bassett does not unleash anymore fake surprise signings on him. After labelling the likes of Tresor Kandol, Jermaine Beckford and Jonathan Howson as 'Trevor', 'Darren' and 'James' at a press conference, Wise thought Leeds' squad had been strengthened without his knowledge. "I thought we had three new players at first. Sadly, Dave gets his names mixed up which is why we have got name-tags on," revealed Wise. "The first months when I met Dave at Wimbledon he always called me the wrong name so he hasn't gone senile or anything like that."

Going off

Luis Aragones has likened him to milk after revealing his intention to step down as Spain boss following next year's European Championship. Aragones has been in charge of the Spanish national side since 2004 and has often endured a frosty relationship with the media for his racist remark about Thierry Henry and their early elimination from last year's World Cup. However, Aragones thinks his tenure at the helm of his national side is coming to an end, although I hope no one throws him in the ban after the Championship. "I have an expiry date and you all know that. It's like milk. When it goes off you don't drink it," explained the 69-year-old.
Cheeky bid
Meanwhile, Stevenage Borough chairman Phil Wallace is still fuming at Gillingham's cheeky bid for three of his club's players. If losing manage Tim Stimson to The Gills was not bad enough, their ex-boss then tried to lure a trio of his former squad with him to The Priestfield. However, the bids for Adam Miller, Stuart Lewis and John Nutter were low. So low that Wallace would have been unable to take a short break in the countryside in a 2007 Swift Charisma 590 caravan, which can be purchased for £14090. "The 'bids' are truly laughable. You couldn't buy a decent caravan with the total of their bid for three players," explained Wallace. "The remarkable thing is that they said they'd need 12 months to pay - how can anyone in football need 12 months to pay £5,000 which is the offer for one of the lads!"
Finally...
Despite England missing out on Euro 2008 next summer, Sunderland manager Roy Keane has given his backing to the current crop of stars. "They certainly have the heart and the passion, but that only gets you so far," he said. "Technically you have got to be able to handle the ball. "These top countries who are constantly qualifying and winning tournaments have that. Having said that and if you look at some of the England players, they're ******* good players."
