Internazionale defender Ivan Cordoba is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Colombian international was forced off during the Serie A leaders' 2-0 UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night and underwent a scan on Wednesday.
The problem is thought to worse than first feared and surgery will now be required in order to cure the cruciate ligament damage.
It is unclear at present how long Cordoba is set to be out of action for, but a date for his return will be set once he has gone under the knife.
