City boss wants captain tieing down

Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson is confident that the club will not allow captain Richard Dunne to leave. The Irish international wants a new deal at Eastlands and is believed to be looking for a big pay-rise to put him on par with the club's highest earners. Both the club's fans and Eriksson are well aware of Dunne's contribution as he has been one, if not the, most consistent City player in recent years. Dunne's current deal expires next year and Eriksson has no qualms about handing him better terms - although he is likely to have to wait until the end of the season.

Hope

"He has not promised me anything, but I'm quite sure it will be sorted out," said Eriksson. "When? I don't know, but I'm sure it will be sorted out. I have talked to him many times about his future and in fact the last time was just before the game [with Sunderland on Saturday]. "He is 28 and you might only sign one or two more contracts. So you want a long one of three or four years. "He has become a special, special player for us. He has been the best player for the club for the last couple of years and he was Ireland Player of the Year. "It's easy to see why we want to keep him."
