Hughes and Allott strike in 2-0 victory

Striker Lee Hughes ensured Oldham's impressive start to the season continued with a 2-0 victory over MK Dons to increase their advantage at the top of League One. Hughes fired the Latics into an early lead and Mark Allott wrapped up the points in injury time. The hosts dominated the opening stages of the game and were rewarded for their pressure when former West Brom striker Hughes broke the deadlock with a strike from the edge of the penalty area. The visitors were handed an opportunity to level the score moments later when Oldham midfielder Sean Gregan handled inside the box. Mark Wright stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, but the Dons midfielder saw his shot saved by veteran goalkeeper Mark Crossley. But Allott made the points safe in injury time when he fired home from 25 yards as Sheridan's men secured a fifth win of the season and maintained their unbeaten record.
