Taylor the hero for Shrimps

Grimsby's rotten season continued as they were dumped out of the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 defeat at Morecambe. 18-year-old striker Aaron Taylor was the Shrimps' hero with goals after 45 and 77 minutes - both from inside the area - to give Sammy McIlroy's side a welcome win. Robbie Stockdale pulled one back for the Mariners two minutes from time when he volleyed home Tom Newey's cross from close range but the Shrimps held on. Morecambe had the better of the first half with Taylor denied by Mariners goalkeeper Phil Barnes before Craig Stanley hit a post. Taylor's opener came when he nodded home Stanley's cross before smashing home a centre from Diarmuid O'Carroll for his second. Grimsby improved in the second half with debutant Adam Proudlock smashing a shot against the crossbar and then volleying inches over.
