Honours even between Macclesfield and Chesterfield

Macclesfield picked up their first point in six games courtesy of a clinical equaliser from Gareth Evans in a 1-1 home draw with Chesterfield. Former Macclesfield striker Martin Gritton had returned to haunt his old club with his fourth goal since leaving in January, a 15-yard drive in off the near post in the eighth minute. But in the 15th minute Ahmed Deen's pinpoint cross was headed in from eight yards for Evans' 12th goal of the season. Gritton might have had another in the 32nd minute but he drilled a shot from the edge of the box inches past the upright. Macclesfield substitute Emile Sinclair nearly scored with his first touch on the hour but blazed his strike over the bar from 20 yards. Chesterfield nearly stole the game in the 78th minute when Aaron Downes forced a fingertip save from goalkeeper Jon Brain.
