Morecambe keep play-off dreams alive

Mark Duffy chose the perfect time to score his first goal for Morecambe as his 71st-minute strike kept the Shrimps' play-off hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Notts County. Former Southport man Duffy latched on to a loose ball in the County box to score from close range to give Sammy McIlroy's side a vital win. The Shrimps, who have now lost just one of their last 17 games, were a long way from their best and they had keeper Barry Roche to thank for a string of fine saves, the best coming from Richard Butler's late header which was heading for the top corner of the goal. Jonathan Forte then went close in the 87th minute with a long-range volley which beat Roche but cleared the crossbar and landed on the netting. Morecambe came close to a second with Kevin Pilkington saving superbly from Garry Hunter's chip and denying Michael Twiss who was put through on goal.
