Grecians agree deal with Cheltenham for midfielder

Cheltenham midfielder Alex Russell expects to sign a permanent deal with Exeter in the near future. Russell spent time on loan with the Grecians during their promotion-winning 2008/9 campaign. He made seven appearances and impressed sufficiently for Exeter to speak with Cheltenham about his future. Russell understands the two clubs have now reached an agreement on a one-year contract and he does not expect there to be any problems. The 36-year-old is now looking forward to playing for Paul Tisdale's side in League One when the new season gets underway. "I haven't officially signed but the clubs are in agreement and I'll be coming down to sign soon," he told the Express & Echo.

Right decision

"The final contract will only take about 20 seconds to sign so I don't exactly know when it will be I sign, but some time over the summer. "As far as I'm concerned it's the right decision for me because the club's on the up and you always want to be part of a club which is striving for better things. "It's a one-year deal so Exeter will more or less be taking on my contract from Cheltenham and the clubs have agreed that. "Everyone at the club was fantastic at the end of the season from the players to the fans so I know it is the right move."
