Barrett confident of being fit for start of season
Southend United have finalised the signing of Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer on a six-month loan deal.
Sawyer, who made 12 appearances for the Shrimpers last season, agreed to return to Roots Hall last week and has figured in the club's pre-season friendlies.
He had been waiting for the paperwork to be completed before officially securing a second spell with the League One club.
Meanwhile, Southend captain Adam Barrett is expecting to be fit for the start of the campaign despite suffering a knee injury against Ipswich on Wednesday.
"My knee is still a little bit sore and stiff, but there isn't anything majorly wrong with it," Barrett told the Echo.
"It's still stable which is a big plus point and we will just have to see how it settles down and keep on monitoring it.
"At the moment though I am confident of being fit for the first league game with Huddersfield."
