Spireites claims narrow success

Scott Boden came off the bench to score his first goal of the season and give Chesterfield a seventh home victory of the campaign as they beat Barnet 1-0. Boden settled an evenly matched contest with a cool finish in the 65th minute to send Barnet crashing to a fourth straight defeat on the road. Barnet had enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half with their wingers causing problems but it was Chesterfield who came closest to scoring before the interval. When David Perkins was tripped five yards outside the box in the 39th minute, Jack Lester beat the defensive wall but Jake Cole dived low to his left to push his free-kick away for a corner. But Cole was beaten in the 65th minute when substitute Boden was put in by Lester and he sidestepped the keeper to fire in from 12 yards. Barnet hit back with Mark Hughes driving in a 25-yard shot that was tipped over and from the corner, David Perkins cleared an Ismail Yakubu header off the line. Perkins went close to adding a second with a 20-yard strike that went just over but Barnet could not find a reply.
