Port Vale substitute Rob Taylor curled a stunning equaliser from 25 yards to earn his side a point from an action packed encounter that ended 2-2 with Torquay. Chances came thick and fast and Vale's Doug Loft drew first blood in the 12th minute when his 18-yard half-volley ripped into the top corner. Marc Richards' shot was touched against the post by Michael Poke as Vale searched for a second before Torquay hit back with an equaliser in the 17th minute. Chris Robertson played the ball into the path of Nicky Wroe and his first-time drive flew into the top left hand corner of Chris Martin's net. Torquay went ahead with their first attempt of the half when Scott Rendell buried a well placed header from Wayne Carlisle's 67th-minute cross. The goal came against the run of play and Taylor struck a deserved equaliser after exchanging passes with Sean Rigg 14 minutes from time.
