Shots book cup date with Owls

First-half goals from Alex Rodman and Luke Guttridge were enough to see Aldershot beat Maidenhead United 2-0 in the FA Cup on Tuesday.

The Shots saw off the Conference South side in the first-round replay at The Rec to book a second-round tie at Sheffield Wednesday. Rodman took advantage of poor closing down by the Magpies to fire in low from outside the box before Guttridge nodded in a second just after the half-hour for the League Two side. Maidenhead almost halved the deficit through Will Hendry but never really threatened a comeback while substitute Danny Hylton should have extended Aldershot's lead late on. Rodman opened the scoring on the quarter hour as he cut inside from the left skipping past three tackles before his shot skipped past Sam Beasant. The Shots made it two when Darren Jones' pinpoint cross from the right picked out the unmarked Guttridge to nod home his fifth of the season. The Magpies came out with more purpose after the break as Hendry's fizzing free-kick was pushed wide by Jamie Young. But they rarely threatened the Shots' lead and with a quarter of an hour to go Hylton should have done better but he dinked wide from Guttridge's through-ball.
