Benik Afobe scored a hat-trick as MK Dons kept up the pressure on their promotion rivals with a 6-0 victory over 10-man Colchester.

The hosts were 3-0 up by half-time thanks to a Dele Alli strike and an Afobe double. On-loan Arsenal striker Afobe added his third after the break while Ben Reeves also notched a penalty - following Will Packwood's red card - with Lee Hodson's goal in injury time the icing on the cake for the Milton Keynes team. Alli produced a stunning opener for the Dons after 11minutes, leaving goalkeeper Sam Walker with no chance by firing a shot into the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards. Walker was beaten again after 37 minutes, with Afobe running onto a neat Reeves pass to coolly chip home. Afobe then headed in from close range just before the break before bagging his 18th goal of the season on the hour mark with a neat left-foot finish. Reeves then slotted home from the penalty spot after 67 minutes after Packwood was sent off on his Colchester debut for bringing down Afobe in the area, before Hodson's curling right-foot shot late on confirmed a comfortable victory.
