Page hails teen Inniss

Jubilant manager Rob Page praised the contribution of on-loan teenager Ryan Inniss as Port Vale sank Doncaster 3-0.

Page's side had gone three months without a clean sheet when they signed the 6ft 4ins 19-year-old from Crystal Palace two weeks ago. But Innis performed heroically in a Vale defence which held firm against a Doncaster side who had won their previous three games and scored 10 goals in the process. Vale boss Page said: "I thought it was a terrific performance by every one of our players, from Chris Neal in goal to Tom Pope in attack. "But Ryan has certainly made a difference since he joined us. He's been a breath of fresh air because it isn't often you get someone so young come in and boss people around from the first training session. "He's a great lad, but he also shows a lot of experience for a 19-year-old and that is rubbing off on those around him. His pace has certainly helped Chris Robertson alongside him and it's certainly very pleasing to get two clean sheets on the trot." Page also had words for Byron Moore, who scored his first goal for the club. Moore's brother committed suicide days after the winger joined Vale last summer. Page added: "You can't imagine what he's been through, but he's getting there now and we were all delighted to see him score. "He had started to look brighter in training in the last few weeks and I'm sure his performance and the goal will give him another boost." Vale took a sixth-minute lead when Pope's cross-field pass caught the Doncaster defence napping and Mark Marshall beat the advancing Stephen Bywater from 14 yards. Doncaster recovered to pose problems themselves, but it needed a terrific save from Bywater to deny Marshall a second in the 18th minute. And there was more pressure from the visitors before Frederic Veseli's first Vale goal increased their advantage in the 38th minute. The full-back back's low shot from 30 yards looked destined for Bywater's hands, but the ball slipped through his grasp and crept into the net. Vale defended solidly and sealed the points three minutes from time when Moore sped past Reece Wabara near the left byline and fired home from a narrow angle. Rovers manager Paul Dickov said: "We contributed to our own downfall. We have defended really well of late, but mistakes have led to Vale's first two goals and we've had to chase the game. "We gave the ball away in a silly area before the first goal and big Steve has held his hands up for the second. He's been terrific since he joined us and we all make mistakes. "Port Vale deserve credit because they managed the conditions better than we did in the first half. We did play some good football, but we lacked a cutting edge and it's disappointing. "We then got caught for the third goal because we were pushing to get back into the game. It's the sort of result you see every week in League One because every team is difficult to play against. "I've just said to the lads to put it behind them and move forwards. The spirit in our camp is very good and we win together and lose together."
