Wheelchair racer and Sky Sports Scholar Samantha Kinghorn has expressed her joy at making the Scottish team for next year's Commonwealth Games.

Scotland's 25-strong squad - described as an "Olympic level" track and field team by their performance director - will set off to the Gold Coast in April.

They have a tough act to follow after the team's athletes secured one gold, two silver and one bronze on home soil at the 2014 Games in Glasgow - their highest haul in 20 years.

Kinghorn will be hunting more silverware in Australia in the 1500m and marathon, having moved up in distance from her sprinting events.

"It's a great honour to be selected for my second Commonwealth Games," said the 21-year-old from Melrose.

"I'm really looking forward to pulling on my countries vest and representing in the 1500m and the marathon."

It caps a stunning week for Kinghorn who picked up the Scottish Sports Personality award and the Disability Sport award.

Because of the different distances, Kinghorn has obviously changed her training schedules since breaking her own world record in winning 200m gold at the World Championships in London.

She also made it a double World gold with victory in the 100m, plus there was a bronze in the 400m.

It has been a gruelling effort to qualify for the marathon having overcome an arm blister in Chicago in October as she completed her first race over 26.2 miles in 1 hour 43 minutes - 22 minutes inside the required time.
