Conference win seals place in inaugural finals day

Surrey Storm won the Surrey Conference to book their place in the Cathedral City Lighter Fast Net Grand Prix finals night on Friday live on Sky Sports. Storm won all three of their group stage matches before defeating Celtic Dragons 25-19 in the final to take their place in the inaugural finals. Northern Thunder will join Storm at the Surrey Sports Park for the final knockout competition as Manchester Conference winners, edging their way past the Yorkshire Jets 25-23 in extra-time. Surrey will take on Northern Thunder in the first encounter of the finals night, with the winner sealing an immediate place in the grand finale. Storm player-coach Tamsin Greenway sees opportunity for the competition to be a catalyst for the new season.

Springboard

"It's fantastic to win the Surrey Conference and to win four games on the day was a great achievement by the girls," she said. "We now go into Friday's finals full of confidence, and we will be looking to win the competition as a whole to give us the ideal springboard into the new Superleague season." The runners-up from each conference, Celtic Dragons and Yorkshire Jets, will play for the right to take on the loser of the first match for a chance to battle for the championship. The new competition was introduced ahead of the Superleague calendar following England's victory in the World Netball Series in Liverpool and has been a success on and off the field with fast net rules attracting sell-out crowds in both conferences. More of the same will be expected for finals night and the action is set to continue as the court prepares to see the sides fight to the end for the right to be crowned overall champions. Finals night for the Cathedral City Lighter Fast Net Grand Prix will be broadcast live on Sky Sports from 6:30pm.
