WWE NXT results: Sami Zayn to challenge Adrian Neville for NXT Championship

British wrestler to meet Canadian after downing Titus O'Neil

Sami Zayn has finally got his wish: a one-on-one match for the NXT Championship.

The Canadian has been hunting gold for months but a myriad of near misses – including being pipped in thrilling Fatal Four Way at Takeover 2 in September – have left him beltless.

However, Zayn’s request for a singles dustup with Adrian Neville was accepted by the current champion on Thursday evening after he had beaten Titus O’Neil to retain his strap.

Neville found O’Neill’s substantial strength advantage hard to quell in the opening stages of their bout, but battled back to win by clocking The Big Deal with a kick to the jaw and the Red Arrow.

Zayn appeared moments later to challenge the Newcastle-born sparkplug and while Neville agreed to put his garland on the line, he told his rival that he was incapable of ‘winning the big one’.

Elsewhere on Main Event, there were tag team triumphs for The Vaudevillains and The Ascension, as well as singles successes for Tyler Breeze and Sasha Banks.

Vaudevillains Simon Gotch and Aiden English overcame Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake as they continue to press for a showdown with NXT Tag Team Champions Sin Cara and Kalisto.

Ascension stars Konnor and Viktor followed up their win over Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger by flooring new nemesis Hideo Itami with Fall of Man, while Breeze’s beating of CJ Parker was watched intently by Mojo Rawley, the man attacked by Prince Pretty two weeks ago.

Banks, meanwhile, made Bayley tap out to Bank Statement and things got worse for the loser when her supposed friend, Irish Diva Becky Lynch, clotheslined her before skipping away gleefully.
