Norway Winter Olympics team orders 15,000 eggs by mistake

Chefs with the Norwegian Winter Olympic team ordered 15,000 eggs by mistake, after what they have described as a misunderstanding.

The chefs, who will feed Norway's 109 athletes at the Games in Pyeongchang, needed 1,500 eggs but over ordered by 13,500.

Speaking to Norwegian newspaper, Aftenposten, chef Stale Johansen, said his team "received half a truckload of eggs" and that there was "no end to the delivery" adding it was "absolutely unbelievable".

Norwegian chef de mission Tore Ovrebo struggled to suggest what they will do with the delivery, but did not rule out consuming them.

"The eggs was more like a misunderstanding than something that we needed, so it was an extra zero on the order, so 1,500 to 15,000," said Ovrebo.

"They will probably use them I guess and I don't know, maybe the people that supplied us with them will take them back I don't know. It's not a big issue.

"The aim is to have fun, and be as good friends when we go back as when we came here. In the meantime we are hoping for 30 medals."

It has been suggested an internet translator was used to make the online order, however, this is unlikely to fully explain the error.

South Korea also has a complex counting system, which employs different systems for different purposes.

It is common for restaurants to buy eggs by the crate in multiples of 30 in South Korea, but changing one syllable would mean the difference between 1,500 and 15,000.
