Edinburgh Rugby fly-half Jason Tovey will be out of action for eight weeks with a wrist injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Tovey, 27, initially joined Edinburgh on loan in March 2016 from Newport Gwent Dragons before signing a two-year contract with the Scottish club in May.

"The Welsh playmaker sustained the injury in training last week, with a scan at Spire Murrayfield Hospital revealing a small fracture," the club said in an official statement.

"However, at this stage it is thought that surgery will not be required.

"Tovey will remain in the care of the club's medical team for ongoing rehabilitation and assessment."
