La Rochelle's Fijian lock Jone Qovu has been cited for allegedly striking Gloucester hooker Richard Hibbard in Saturday's European Challenge Cup semi-final.
Qovu is suspected of having struck the former Wales international in the 45th minute of La Rochelle's 16-14 defeat.
The Fijian faces a ban of between two and 52 weeks if found guilty, which means he could miss the rest of this season.
La Rochelle are currently top of the French Top 14 with two regular season matches to play, and they have already qualified for the end of season play-offs starting in mid-May, with the Top 14 final in Paris on June 3.
A European Professional Club Rugby statement said that Qovu "is alleged to have struck the Gloucester player, Richard Hibbard (No 2), in the 45th minute of the match in contravention of Law 10.4 (a).
"The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Alberto Recaldini (Italy).
"Kathrine Mackie (Scotland) Chair, Simon Thomas (Wales) and Jean-Noel Couraud (France) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, 26 April) in Paris."
