Queensland make one change for match in South Africa

Reds coach Phil Mooney has named World Cup Wallaby Berrick Barnes at inside centre for Saturday's Super 14 match against the Lions in Johannesburg. Barnes' inclusion is the only change to the line-up that defeated the defending champion Bulls 40-8 in Brisbane on Saturday. Barnes had originally been selected at inside centre for the Bulls match with Quade Cooper at fly-half, but he was replaced by Charlie Fetoai after succumbing to a calf strain. "Berrick's an international player and we need him in the side," Mooney said from the team's training base in Pretoria. "It's tough on Charlie as he did an excellent job for us when called into the side against the Bulls, but it's fantastic for our depth to have a player like him who can step up at short notice and perform so well."

Rebuilding

Mooney said the selectors had otherwise kept faith with the team that played well against the Bulls, after making multiple changes in the preceding two weeks while searching for a winning combination. The Reds shocked the Bulls and the rugby pundits with their five tries to one victory at Suncorp, but have been reminded by Mooney that only a succession of wins will begin to restore the respect the side is seeking following their disappointing 2007. "The 22 did the job against the Bulls. It's now up to them to give us a back-to-back performance of the same or better quality against the Lions," Mooney added. The Lions are in 12th place on the competition table, five points behind the Reds, but they gave the unbeaten Sharks a scare before going down 16-8 at the weekend and will be looking for a winning performance against the Reds before having a week off ahead of the Australasian leg of their tournament.
