Nick Kyrgios plans "to have fun" when he faces two-time grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka in the opening round of the AEGON Championships in London next week.

The 20-year-old Australian has been drawn to face the Swiss star who last weekend beat world No 1 Novak Djokovic in the final of the French Open at Roland Garros.

Kyrgios is rising quickly up the rankings and is currently No 25 in the world. Last year, at Wimbledon, he knocked out Rafael Nadal and just five months ago reached the last eight of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Looking ahead to his Queen’s Club encounter with world No 2 Wawrinka, Kyrgios said: "It's unbelievable, to have an opportunity to play Wawrinka after he won the French Open on some of the best grass courts in the world. I think it's exciting.

"I'm feeling really confident but we'll see how it goes. I'm just going to go out there, play my game, have fun and if I lose, I lose, if I win, I win."

Wawrinka stunned the tennis world last Sunday by winning the biggest clay court title in the sport, and now he moves to grass to begin his preparations for Wimbledon.

Kyrgios said of Wawrinka’s achievement: "It was extraordinary tennis. To beat Djokovic, I didn't think that anyone was going to get close to Djokovic, and Murray did unbelievably well to go to five sets against him.

“Stan just played unbelievably. He hits the ball massive, he doesn't really play with any fear so I can see some similarities but I think our games are a little bit different."

As for playing on grass in London, Kyrgios added: "Every time I come here it's hard not to think about what happened last year.

“I've done a lot of good things since then as well which also boost my confidence and just gives me more motivation to keep training hard."

Meanwhile, his friend and compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis has been handed a wildcard for Queen’s, replacing injured Brit Kyle Edmund.
