Arnaud Clement has been removed from his role as captain of France's Davis Cup team.

The French Tennis Federation confirmed Clement's dismissal on Friday, citing his struggles to unite and motivate the team.

Clement had been in the role for three years after bringing an end to his playing career, but he was unable to end their streak without winning the tournament that dates back to 2001.

Despite France's 3-1 home loss in last year's final to a Swiss team featuring 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka, Clement was given a new two-year contract by the French federation last December.

But France's 2015 campaign came to an end last month when they were beaten 3-1 by Great Britain in July's quarter-final.

According to a report in L'Equipe, former captain Yannick Noah is a possible successor for Clement - Noah led France to Davis Cup victories in 1991 and 1996 and has also been in charge of their Fed Cup team.
