Luke Campbell stayed on course for a summer showdown with Tommy Coyle after a third round stoppage win over Levis Morales in Hull.
The Hull lightweight bravely decided to fight on the bill, despite his father’s ill health, and proved a class above his Nicaraguan opponent, who was floored twice before the towel was thrown in.
Campbell quickly found his range in the opener, spearing Morales with crisp jabs and lightning left hands in front of a vociferous home crowd.
His blistering hand speed was cutting holes in the Morales defence and a stiff jab, quickly followed by a straight left, sent the Central American onto the canvas in the second round.
Clambering up on wobbly legs, Morales survived until the bell, but he was ruthlessly finished off by the former amateur star in the next stanza.
Campbell unloaded another fierce flurry of punches which left his foe in a crumpled heap by the corner, and he was rescued by the referee after the towel was flung onto the canvas.
