Anthony Crolla hopes fellow lightweight Luke Campbell will bounce back from his first professional defeat.
The Olympic gold medalist was beaten by Frenchman Yvan Mendy on a split decision at the O2, live on Sky Sports Box Office, after being put down in the fifth round.
Campbell moved to 12-1-KO10 in the shock result of the night, but WBA world lightweight champion Crolla - who lost in his ninth fight to Youssef Al Hamidi back in 2008 - believes it will take the pressure off him.
"That was a huge shock but I know more than most, you can come back from a loss," he told Sky Sports.
"I'm not comparing myself with Luke Campbell in any way because I didn't do a fraction of what he did as an amateur, but I lost early in my career and I came back.
"As long as Luke goes away and takes this as a lesson, he will be OK. The one thing is, the pressure is now off him with that first loss.
"He'll go away, assess things and come back a better fighter, hopefully."
Crolla (30-4-3-KO12) was crowned WBA champion last month, taking the title from Darleys Perez at the second attempt three weeks ago.
The Manchester fighter was ringside on Saturday night to see if another British lightweight, Kevin Mitchell, would be his challenger in the new year, only to see him stopped in brutal fashion by Venezuelan Ismael Barroso.
And even though the winner was better than many people thought, Crolla made it clear he would have no problem taking him on in his first title defence in the spring next year.
"He came over here with a reputation as a huge puncher and he backed it up, but he also showed there is more to him than just that," said Crolla.
"People said he was crude but he looked well-polished last night and he had skills.
"I did see flaws in him though, so I would be confident if I did fight him."
