Former Booth foe drops points decision in Joburg

Steve Molitor lost his IBF super-bantamweight title when he dropped a unanimous points verdict to old rival Takalani Ndlovu. Six months on from beating Jason Booth in Sunderland, Molitor took his title on the road once again, this time facing Ndlovu in his own back yard in Johannesburg. The Canadian had posted easy victories against the 33-year-old in their two previous battles in Ontario but it was a completely different story this time. Ndlovu outboxed the champion from the start and stunned Molitor in the second round, after which Molitor was reluctant to get involved at close quarters. The South African repeatedly beat his opponent to the punch and enjoyed more success in the sixth round, with Molitor hanging on to reach the bell. Ndlovu continued to be the aggressor and it came as no surprise when the judges gave it to the challenger with scores of 118-110 (twice) and 116-112.
