Postman from Paisley crowned new British Welterweight champion

Kevin McIntyre claimed the British Welterweight title with a unanimous points victory over Kevin Anderson on Friday night. The 29-year-old from Paisley stunned the Magnum Centre crowd, in Scotland with a comfortable win against his compatriot Anderson. Anderson had gone into the bout as the overwhelming favourite, and needed just one more defence to secure the Lonsdale belt outright. But a short sharp right to the temple floored Anderson in the first round and he never recovered. He also went down in the second and despite managing to go the full 12 rounds, never really got close.

Power

McIntyre, who is a postman by trade, claimed the 25th win of his career as a result and now wants to build on his success. "It's the best feeling in the world. I couldn't top the way I'm feeling right now," McIntyre told Sky Sports 1. "It shows what can happen if I get a bit of backing. "My targets were spot on. I never stopped moving. Even when he was throwing punches I was smothering him. Everything just went to plan "I was obviously surprised to knock him down so early, but I thought every time I did connect I was hurting him, so there's obviously a bit of power there. "I've been on a weight programme so It's obviously paying off."
Emphatic
The judges scored the bout 120-107, 119-108, 118-110, reflecting the dominance of McIntyre's display. Anderson said: "Maybe it was a bit too quick after my last fight, but I'm only 24. I've got plenty of time to come back. "I'll be back, and I'll win the British title and go further than the British title, but I'll also make mistakes along the way because I'm not afraid to go in with anybody. "I'll win some and maybe I'll lose some, but I'll get there some time in my career."
